At least two people were killed and several others injured on Tuesday afternoon after a car drove into a pedestrian zone in the southwestern German city of Trier, local police said.
“We have arrested one person, one vehicle has been secured. Two people have died, according to preliminary indications,” Trier police said on Twitter.
It also advised citizens to avoid the downtown area and to “not spread speculation,” as “reliable information” can be obtained from the staff of Trier police.
The Trierischer Volksfreund local newspaper quoted an eyewitness as saying a dark grey Range Rover was driving at high speed and people had been thrown through the air, Reuters reported.
