NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan produced 69.8 billion kWh of electricity for 8 months of 2020, which is 0.3% more than in the same period a year earlier, the country’s Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy said.

According to the JSC national company KEGO, 155 power plants are currently producing electricity in Kazakhstan, the total installed capacity of power plants in Kazakhstan is 22,936.6 MW, and the available capacity is 19,329.7 MW.

The National Development Institute of Development Bank of Kazakhstan (DBK, a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding) has invested more than 320 billion tenge ($ 1 – 427.88 tenge) in energy projects since 2003.

In recent years, the republic has been devoting itself to the development of green energy. So, the construction of the Turgusun hydroelectric power station is underway in the east of Kazakhstan, a 100 MW Nurgisa solar power plant has been built  and photovoltaic power plant Zhylga with a capacity of 20 MW in south of republic, a wind farm Astana EXPO-2017 with a capacity of 50 MW in the centre of the country.
